The University of Pittsburgh received approximately $110 million from the U.S. Department of Education in COVID-19 relief funding through three relief packages that were approved by Congress: the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act  (HEERF I), the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (HEERF II), and the American Rescue Plan Act (HEERF III).

Through these grants, Pitt was able to disburse funding to students on all five campuses identified as having the greatest need in accordance with federal guidelines. In addition, the funding was also used to offset the University’s institutional costs related to the COVID-19 pandemic, including lost revenue and costs associated with associated with safely bringing students and faculty to campus.
