Updated Jan. 20, 2023.

Here are the latest details on Pitt's testing services:

1. Spring 2023 arrival testing

Testing upon arrival to campus is strongly encouraged, though it is never too late. If you did not test when you returned to campus — especially if you live in a residence hall — we strongly encourage you to do so in the first week of spring term. If you test outside the University’s ColorHealth testing platform, please submit your test result so you can be quickly connected to the appropriate care if you tested positive.

Instructions for logging in to ColorHealth:

When first creating your account, use your full Pitt email. Click on SSO and use your Pitt email. Log in to Pitt Passport. Click: Check Eligibility.

When prompted to enter your "Email or ID," DO NOT include the @pitt.edu part of your email address. Correct format: abc123

For laptop users: Log Out
For Chromebook users: End Session
2. Do you have symptoms?

The CDC’s Coronavirus Self-Checker may be a useful tool. If you have COVID-19 symptoms such as coughing, sore throat, fever, fatigue or difficulty breathing, please get tested through Student Health Services on your campus or MyHealth@Work at 412-647-4949 to rule out a possible COVID-19 infection.

  • Bradford: 814-362-5272
  • Greensburg: 724-836-9947
  • Johnstown: 814-269-7110
  • Pittsburgh: 412-383-1800
  • Titusville: 814-362-5272

Testing for symptomatic faculty and staff is available on the Pittsburgh campus at the O'Hara Student Center.

If you test positive, begin isolating as soon as possible and let your close contacts know about potential exposure. Student Health Services or MyHealth@Work will also conduct contact tracing. If you test negative for COVID, you may be infected with another respiratory virus, so it is wise to wear a mask indoors with others to mitigate the risk of spreading something else.

Pitt will continue to offer symptomatic testing and close contact/focused testing for faculty, staff, and students throughout the spring term as needed.

3. No symptoms, but a close contact OR concerned about a potential COVID-19 exposure?

Onsite testing – Pittsburgh campus

All Pitt faculty, staff and students are welcome to utilize asymptomatic testing at the O’Hara Student Center throughout the term. Learn more about the on-campus process. Clinic hours are Monday - Friday 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. This site is also open for symptomatic employee testing.

Pitt will continue to offer close contact/focused testing throughout spring term as needed. Close contacts of people who have recently tested positive for COVID-19 should get tested to make sure they did not also get infected—or to begin isolating if they did.

Pitt is now partnering with ColorHealth and ThermoFisher Scientific for its testing program.

  • Community members will be able to pick up an unobserved, self-swab test kit at a designated place on their campus, enter the barcode on the test kit and log in to the testing application through Pitt Passport.
  • It’s important to use your official Pitt email address and not your Pitt email alias (e.g., jxd123@pitt.edu, not jane.doe@pitt.edu) to activate your test kit. When prompted to "Enter the email or ID that's associated with the program," enter your Pitt username (e.g. jxd123).
  • Test kit activation should be completed and returned on the same day.
  • Collection tube caps must be tightly screwed back on before returning your sample.
  • If you need help activating a test, tablets will be set up at the O’Hara Student Center during clinic hours to offer assistance with testing.
  • If you cannot access the instructions from your Pitt Passport profile, please use the ColorHealth sign on page at home.color.com/sso
