Face Coverings

The University’s requirements for face coverings will at a minimum be consistent with CDC guidance and masks are required indoors (campus buildings and shuttles) on campuses in which the CDC's COVID-19 Hospital Admission Levels (previously Community Levels) are High. Read answers to frequently asked questions regarding face coverings. Masks are optional indoors for campuses in which county levels are Medium or Low. Be aware of your Community Level as it changes each Thursday.

Read the revised rules.

Please respect individual decisions regarding whether or not to wear a mask when it is optional. All members of our community are welcome to wear a face covering at any time, for any reason. The University continues to provide face coverings, including N95 masks, at concierge stations throughout our campuses.

Please remember wearing a well-fitted mask will help protect you from contracting SARS-CoV-2, even if those around you are not wearing masks. Masks are highly effective at reducing the risk of contracting any respiratory virus for the person wearing the mask.

Personal Practices

There are simple steps you can take to mitigate the spread of illness—including COVID-19, colds and the flu—and protect yourself and others.

  • If you haven’t yet, get vaccinated and boosted.
  • If you’re sick, stay home until you feel better.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly and often.
  • If you need to cough or sneeze, do so in a disposable tissue or your bended elbow.
  • If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer that’s at least 60% alcohol.
  • Frequently clean high-touch surfaces within your area, like your desk and office doorknob using the supplied materials.
  • Try to use your elbow on high-touch public surfaces, like elevator buttons or push-open doors.
  • Limit the time you spend with others in small spaces like bathrooms and elevators.

The Healthcare Advisory Group and COVID-19 Medical Response Office regularly review campus data and public health guidance and may change guidance as needed.
